Wearing ring with quran verses.

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Salaam. My father has presented me a ring. In which he has placed some quran ayat (written on a paper) and it`s been protected in such a way that water will not touch those ayat`s (inshaallah). Is it permissible to go to restrooms (bathroom / toilet) having this ring on my fingers? && Is`t permissible to do intercourse with my wife by having this ring on my fingers? Pls clarify. Jazakallah.

Answer:

Wearing ring with quran verses

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Your Question: Is it permissible to go to restrooms (bathroom / toilet) having this ring on my fingers?

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 19     Narrated by Anas ibn Malik

When the Prophet (saws) entered the privy, he (saws) removed his ring.

Although the inscription on the ring of the Messenger of Allah (saws) was only ‘Mohamed ar-Rasool Allah’, it is reported that whenever the Messenger of Allah (saws) entered the privy to answer the call of nature, he (saws) would remove his ring.

In light of the above practice and Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (saws), if one adorns a ring with the Blessed Name of Allah, or His Messenger (saws), or any Verses of the Glorious Quran, etc….it would be preferred that one remove their ring before they enter the toilets.

Your Question: Is`t permissible to do intercourse with my wife by having this ring on my fingers?

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 229   Narrated by Ali ibn AbuTalib

Abdullah ibn Salamah reported that he heard Hadrat Ali ibn Abi Talib (r.a.) say: ‘Nothing prevented the Prophet (saws) from (reciting) the Quran except sexual defilement.’

Although there is no specific mention in the authentic and established records of Sunnah whether or not the Messenger of Allah (saws) would remove his ring when approaching his wives, the majority of the scholars and jurists in Islam are of the opinion that if one perchance adorns oneself with a ring whereby the Blessed Name of Allah, or His Messenger (saws), or any Verses of the Quran are inscribed, it would be best and preferred for one to remove their ring before enjoying conjugal relations with their wife. And Allah Alone Knows Best.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
