One fears wife practicing bida.

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

By the grace of ALLAH I always to keep away from Bid’a and any shirks. This what I often point out to my kids and wife. But my worry is my wife is not keen to listen to me or principles which are based on Quran and Sunna and she never bothered to look at the books and audio stuffs I bring. Instead she reads a book in the morning and evening which contain some soora full and some sooras have only some ayaths. The book also some other dua’s too. Besides there is another book which contain chapters like kanjul arah, and Hadad rateeb and some which I never heard off too. She reads these books despite I brought 3 copies of fortress of Islam which contain supplication for all occasions prescribed by Hadith. I often worry about this thinking the effect on children if they too follow these bid’a and shirks. Kindly advise what shall I do. Once I feel some one close to me deliberately following Bid’a and shirks I start hating them and don’t know what will happen next.

Jazakallahu Khair..

One fears wife practicing bida

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith  7.27         Narrated by Abu Huraira

The Prophet (saws) said, "A woman is married for four things, i.e., her wealth, her family status, her beauty and her religion. So you should marry the religious woman (otherwise) you will be a loser."

The Messenger of Allah (saws) guided the believers to seek to marry pious religious women.  The time to thoroughly investigate and satisfy oneself with the practice of religion of one’s spouse is before one agrees to marry them, not after one has already married them!  If one did not take the necessary striving to investigate and satisfy oneself with the practice of religion of their prospective spouse, or one had prior knowledge regarding their casual practice of the ‘deen’ and still agreed to marry them….then obviously such a person has chosen to put himself/herself in a severe trial with their own hands and has no one to blame other than themselves!

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 3.733         Narrated by Abdullah bin Umar

That he heard Allah's Messenger (saws) saying, "Everyone of you is a guardian and is responsible for those under their charge; the ruler is a guardian and is responsible for his subjects; the man is a guardian in his family and responsible for his charges; a woman is a guardian of her husband's house and responsible for her charges; and the servant is a guardian of his master's property and is responsible for his charges; so everyone of you is a guardian and responsible for his charges."

Respected brother in Islam, Allah Subhanah has made you the ‘Imam’ or ‘Raii’ of your house and you will be held responsible for whatever transpires in your household by those under your ward.

If you find that the Prescribed Laws and Boundaries of the Lord Most Majestic are violated in your own house, as the ‘Imam’ and the ‘Raii’ of the house, it is your duty and your responsibility to make sure that an immediate stop is put to such evil….especially if the evil taking place in your house is as grave as the abominations of ‘shirk’ and ‘bida’.   You are at absolute liberty to use all your authority to make sure that the Prescribed Laws and Boundaries of the Lord Most Majestic are honored in your house…..and if you find that after repeated reminders and warnings your wife is bent on violating the Laws or Boundaries of the Lord, you are at liberty to go even as far as threatening divorce if she does not put an immediate stop to such evil abominations as ‘shirk’ and ‘bida’ in your own house!

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
