When is the DOJ hour.

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Is there any Hadith, which mention about the specific day and month of Qayamat (Final hour).

What are the minor and major signs of Qayamat?

Answer:

When is the DOJ hour

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Your Question: …..Is there any Hadith, which mention about the specific day and month of Qayamat (Final hour).

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 7 Surah Aaraaf verses 187-188:

187    They ask thee (O Prophet (saws)) about the (Final) Hour; when will be its appointed time?  Say (to them O Prophet (saws)): "The Knowledge thereof is with my Lord (Alone): none but He can reveal as to when it will occur!  Heavy were its burden through the heavens and the earth.  Only all of a sudden will it come to you. They ask thee as if thou wert eager in search thereof! Say: "The knowledge thereof is with Allah (Alone) but most men know not."

188    Say (to them O Prophet (saws)): "I have no power over any good or harm to myself except as Allah Wills.  If I had knowledge of the unseen I should have multiplied all good and no evil should have touched me; I am but a warner and a bringer of glad tidings to those who have faith."

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 33 Surah Ahzaab verse 63:

63      Men ask thee (O Prophet (saws)) concerning the Hour. Say "The Knowledge thereof is with Allah (Alone)": and what will make thee understand? Perchance the Hour is nigh!

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 6.300         Narrated by Abu Huraira

One day while Allah's Messenger (saws) was sitting with the people, a man came to him walking and asked, "O Allah's Messenger (saws), what is ‘Imaan’ (faith or belief)?" …………. The man further asked, "O Allah's Messenger (saws), what is ‘Islam’?" ……………The man again asked, "O Allah's Messenger (saws), what is ‘Ihsaan’ …………  The man further asked, "O Allah's Messenger (saws), when will the Hour be established?"  The Prophet (saws) replied, "The one who is asked about it does not know any more (about its time) than the questioner does, but I will describe to you its portents. When the lady slave gives birth to her mistress, that will be (one) of its portents; when the bare-footed naked people become the chiefs of the people, that will be (one) of its portents. The Hour is one of five things which nobody knows except Allah. (Then the Prophet (saws) recited the Verse of the Quran 31:34) ‘Verily, the knowledge of the Hour is with Allah (alone). He sends down the rain, and knows that which is in the wombs."  Then the man left. The Prophet (saws) said to his companions, "Call him back to me." They went to call him back but could not see him. The Prophet (saws) then declared, "That was Jibrael (a.s.) who came to teach the people their religion."

In light of the above quoted Guidance of the Quran and the Sunnah, the time of the appointed Hour is known to absolutely none except The Lord Most Majestic, Most Supreme Who created…..absolutely no one in creation, not even the appointed Prophets of Allah, not even the Noble Angels closest to the Majestic Lord have any knowledge whatsoever regarding its Decreed and Appointed Time!!!  The Knowledge of when exactly the Decreed Hour will be established is known to none save the Lord Most Supreme Alone.

Your Question: …..What are the minor and major signs of Qayamat?

There are numerous authentic narrations from the Messenger of Allah (saws) which describe the ‘signs’ or ‘portents’ which will approach before the establishment of the Hour…..some amongst them which are general in nature are termed ‘minor’, and the ones which are more specific are termed as ‘major’ Signs of the Hour.

Amongst the ‘minor’ Signs of the Hour are:

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 9.185         Narrated by Abu Musa

The Prophet (saws) said, "Near the Establishment of the Hour there will be days during which (religious) knowledge will be taken away (vanish), general ignorance will be wide-spread, and there will be ‘Al-Harj’ (killing) in abundance.’

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 2.146         Narrated by Abu Huraira

The Prophet (saws) said, "The Hour (Last Day) will not be established until (religious) knowledge will be taken away (by the death of religious learned men), earthquakes will be very frequent, time will pass quickly, afflictions will appear, murders will increase, and money will overflow amongst you."

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 9.421         Narrated by Abu Huraira

The Prophet (saws) said, "The Hour will not be established till my followers copy the deeds of the previous nations and follow them very closely, span by span, and cubit by cubit." It was asked, "O Allah's Messenger (saws)! Do you mean by those (nations) the Persians (polytheists) and the Byzantines (Christians)?" The Prophet (saws) said, "Who can it be other than they?"

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 9.237         Narrated by Abu Huraira

Allah's Messenger (saws) said, "The Hour will not be established (1) till two big groups fight each other whereupon there will be a great number of casualties on both sides and they will be following one and the same religious doctrine, (2) till about thirty Dajjals (liars) appear, and each one of them will claim that he is a Prophet, (3) till the religious knowledge is taken away (by the death of religious scholars) (4) earthquakes will increase in number (5) time will pass quickly, (6) afflictions will appear, (7) ‘Al-Harj’ (i.e., killing) will increase, (8) till wealth will be in abundance--so abundant that a wealthy person will worry lest nobody should accept his ‘Zakat’, and whenever he will present it to someone, that person (to whom it will be offered) will say, 'I am not in need of it,' (9) till the people compete with one another in constructing high buildings, (10) till a man when passing by a grave of someone will say, 'Would that I were in his place,' (11) and till the sun rises from the West.”

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 1.56 Narrated by Abu Huraira

While the Prophet (saws) was saying something in a gathering, a Bedouin came and asked him, "When would the Hour take place?"  Allah's Messenger (saws) replied: "When honesty is lost, then wait for the Hour." The Bedouin asked, "How will that be lost?" The Prophet (saws) said, "When power or authority comes in the hands of persons without merit, then wait for the Hour."

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 1.47 Narrated by Abu Huraira

Amongst the descriptions of the portents of the Hour, the Messenger of Allah (saws) said are:

‘1.      When a slave (lady) gives birth to her master.

2.       When the shepherds of black camels start boasting and competing with others in the construction of the highest buildings.’

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 9.231         Narrated by Abu Huraira

The Prophet (saws) said: "The Hour will not be established till a man passes by a grave of somebody and says, 'Would that I were in his place.' "

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 5448        Narrated by Anas ibn Malik

Allah's Messenger (saws) said, "The Last Hour will not come before time contracts, a year being like a month, a month like a week, a week like a day, a day like an hour, and an hour like the kindling of a fire!"

Anas reports that the Messenger of Allah (saws) said: "The Hour will not come to pass until the people will vie with each other in (building) the mosques, but very few will attend (the mosques)."

Related by Ahmad, Abu Dawud, Nasa'i, Ibn Majah, Ibn Hibban, and Ibn Khuzaimah.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 8.800A       Narrated by Anas

I heard the Prophet (saws) saying, "From among the portents of the Hour is that the religious knowledge will be taken away (by the death of religious Scholars) and general ignorance (of religion) will appear; and the drinking of alcoholic drinks will be very common, and (open) illegal sexual intercourse will prevail, and men will decrease in number while women will increase so much so that, for fifty women there will only be one man to look after them."

Amongst the ‘major’ Signs of the Hour are:

Sahih Muslim Hadith 6931     Narrated by Hudhayfah ibn Usayd Ghifari

Allah's Messenger (saws) came to us all of a sudden as we were (busy in a discussion) and asked: ‘What do you discuss about?’ (The Companions) said: ‘We are discussing about the Last Hour, O Messenger of Allah (saws)” Thereupon the Prophet (saws) said: ‘It will not come until you see ten signs before and (in this connection) he (saws) made a mention of (1) the smoke, (2) (advent of the )Dajjal, (3) the (emergence of the) Beast, (4) the rising of the sun from the west, (5) the descent of Isa (a.s.), son of Mary, (6) The (emergence of the tribes of) Gog and Magog, and (7) landslides in three places, one in the east, one in the west and one in Arabia at the end of which a fire would burn forth from the Yemen, and would drive people to the place of their assembly.’

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 4.401         Narrated by Auf bin Mali

The Prophet (saws) said: "Count six Signs that indicate the approach of the Hour: my death, the conquest of Jerusalem, a plague that will afflict you (and kill you in great numbers) as the plague that afflicts sheep, the increase of wealth to such an extent that even if one is given one hundred Dinars, he will not be satisfied; then an affliction which no Arab house will escape, and then a truce between you and Bani Al-Asfar (i.e. the Christians) who will betray you and attack you under eighty flags. Under each flag will be twelve thousand soldiers.’

Respected brother in Islam, the truth of the matter is that the Hour or Day of Judgment will be established at the exact and precise time The Lord Most Majestic has already Decreed for it to be established, and Allah Subhanah Alone Knows how near or how far that exact time is!  But what one must know for sure and with absolute conviction is that when one’s last breath goes in and does not come out, without an iota of a doubt, their ‘Hour’ will definitely be established!!!!

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 8.518         Narrated by Aisha

Some Bedouins (desert Arabs) used to visit the Prophet (saws) and ask him, "When will the Hour be established?" He (saws) would look at the youngest of all of them and say, "If this (ie. the youngest one) should live till he is very old, ‘your Hour’ (the death of the people addressed) will take place!"

Respected brother in Islam, we remind you as we remind ourselves…..rather than concerning ourselves regarding the day/month/year when the Appointed Hour will be established, the thought that should truly concern each of us is what have we done to prepare ourselves for that Inevitable and Tumultuous Hour!!!

If one trusts, obeys, and follows the guidance and commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws),   one can be assured of never ever being misled;   but if one believes, obeys and follows any other guidance, other than that of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of being led astray.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
