27) Chapter: Making up fasts on behalf of the deceased

'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying:

If anyone dies in a state (that he had to complete) some fasts, his heir must fast on his behalf.

27) باب قَضَاءِ الصِّيَامِ عَنِ الْمَيِّتِ
وَحَدَّثَنِي هَارُونُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الأَيْلِيُّ، وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ عِيسَى، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، - رضى الله عنها - أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏‏ ‏.‏ "‏ مَنْ مَاتَ وَعَلَيْهِ صِيَامٌ صَامَ عَنْهُ وَلِيُّهُ ‏"
